"Life is a canvas of endless colors; it’s up to us to paint it with our dreams and experiences."

What will I be sharing in my new blog?

I’m thrilled to embark on this new blogging adventure, where I’ll be sharing the stories and inspirations that fuel my creative journey. This blog is a canvas for exploring the experiences and moments that shape my art, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the processes and passions driving my work.

Sparking Creativity: my original paintings

Coming up with new, creative painting ideas is like embarking on a treasure hunt within your own imagination. It begins with a spark—an emotion, a fleeting thought, a past experience embedded deep within your mind, or a simple observation—and gradually transforms into a vivid vision. This process often involves exploring various sources of inspiration, and changing aspects of the pieces while you are working on it. I change course mid-stream all the time!

Experimentation plays a crucial role, as artists might play with different techniques, colors, or expressions to see what resonates. It’s also a matter of allowing oneself to be open and curious, letting ideas develop organically and embracing unexpected revelations. These unpredictable changes often lead to the most interesting aspect of the entire piece!

For example, this piece was an idea I had written down for awhile! I wanted to show the 7 dwarfs stacked up reaching for something on top of Snow White's fridge, and I wanted it to be a long, vertical canvas. That is all I had to start with; a mere seed of an idea. I began with this seed, holding onto faith that inspiration would hit.
While sketching and painting this piece, the ideas began coming in! Let's dive directly into this scene: If this is really Snow White's house, what would she have in it? A bowl of fresh, juicy apples on the countertop? A "Live.Laugh.Love." sign, as mid-aged women tend to have? Is she a tequila drinker? I'm sure she has good taste, so let's go with Patron. All of these extra details were born during the creative process. Happy to say, the piece resonated with someone, and it was sold to a good home! Look at that smile... :)

Sparking Joy: art for clients

Painting for a client and executing their ideas presents a unique set of challenges and rewards. Unlike the freedom of creating solely from one's own vision, this process requires a deep understanding of the client's desires and expectations. Sometimes through the exploration process, you can see elements or ideas that the client may not have thought of! It involves translating their concepts, preferences, and even their personal stories and taste into a visual form that resonates with both their vision and the artist's style.

This collaborative effort often demands flexibility and creativity, as the artist must find ways to harmonize their own artistic sensibilities with the client's specific requests. The result can be a deeply satisfying experience, as it fosters a meaningful connection through art and brings a client's vision to life, all while expanding the artist's ability to adapt and innovate within new parameters.

Thank you for joining me on this first blog post peeking into my artistic world, albeit a bit messy. Sharing my art and experiences with you is incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect and engage with friends and fellow creatives. Your interest and support inspire me to continue exploring and expressing.

Until next time, keep embracing the beauty of art and the joy of creativity in your own lives.

Let's live life with some color!

-Jess
